Justice served!!!

NEW YORK TIMES 5 Sep 2010 – Sometimes there's no going back.

JetBlue Airways says that there will be no second exits for famed flight attendant Steven Slater— who captured the nation's imagination with his profanity-laced loudspeaker tirade and jump down a plane's emergency chute, beer in hand.

Spokeswoman Jenny Dervin said Saturday that Slater is no longer employed by the airline. She said the airline won't release further details out of respect for Slater's privacy.

The former flight attendant still has to navigate the criminal justice system. He's been charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and trespassing; his lawyer has said a passenger's "lack of civility" prompted his behavior.

Despite Slater's online popularity, some passengers came forward to criticize him as brusque and cranky throughout the 90-minute trip from Pittsburgh to New York. One passenger portrayed Slater as the instigator, saying he cursed without provocation at a woman who had asked about her bag.
 
Steven Slater is a loser!!!  Basically, he went "postal" without the gun!  What really "burns" me about his behavior is that he had the unmitigated gall to ask the airline for his job back!!!  Are you kidding me!!!  He had a job of public trust and a responsibility for the safety of passengers and he performed an act of gross negligence disregarding the safety of the passengers entrusted to him and now he wants a "do over." 

I am in my fifties and grew up as a kid where you didn't get “do overs.”  Neither did kids "earn" trophy's unless they won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, place.  Every kid didn't get a trophy like they do today!  I think this fear of damaging children's esteem by telling them that in certain instances they are not as talented as others is a joke.  I believe we are all born equal; however, we all don't develop equally.  Most of us develop some talent that makes us stand out more than others.  I might be sports, the arts, academia, and in many instances some don't develop any talent that places them above the average person, Therefore, not all people wind up as equals with others in society, that is the way life is.   
 
We have all had tough days and hard times.  How many of us have been frustrated passengers on planes that sit on the tarmac for hours of on end, have our baggage lost, or missed our connecting flights and spent the night in airports.  Yet, if any of us did what Slater did would we not be prosecuted for our actions, and deservedly so?  Is he being prosecuted?  If not than I say justice is being denied! What should we do about immigration reform?
