I subscribed to Sirius Satellite Radio just prior to Howard Stern going onto their air waves. I was a big Howard fan and just couldn't face my 2 hour daily commute without being able to listen to him.
I activated my radio a few weeks before Howard went on the air and what I found in those weeks was fantastic radio programming. At this point, even if Howard would leave Sirius, there is no way that I would end my subscription. The music and other programming on Sirius is just to good to leave.
The music programming covers any area of music you would want to listen to - classical, 50's rock, alternative, country, rap - whatever you want to hear at that moment, you can find it with the push of a button. The music channels also lack one thing - commercials! As I said, my commute was 2 hours - on terrestrial radio I would have to channel hop for 15 minutes while a station went to a block of commercials. No need to do that with Sirius because they don't run commercials on their music channels. Sirius does utilize DJ's on many of their stations and I appreciate that because I always like to get some color commentary about the music I am hearing.
The sports programming is also great. All NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA and NASCAR races are carried. NASCAR races are carried on multiple channels and allow the listener to either listen to a 'general' race channel or in on a specific channel that carries a selected racers radio traffic between the racer and his pit crew.
There are a bunch of news and traffic channels including Bloomberg, CNN and others. Traffic for all major US cities are covered and usually the coverage is pretty up to the minute. There is also kid specific programming like Disney Radio.
I would say that in all of the years since subscribing for Sirius, I have listened to AM/FM radio for less than 10 minutes (which is even hard for me to believe). The other thing is that those 10 minutes were actually painful for me because the content on regular radio just isn't very good these days. The $13/month subscription fee breaks down to a few cents per day and the enjoyment that Sirius provides is more than worth the price of admission.
