I really love Slap Shot. It's one of the few sports films that capture the essence of the sport it's portraying. Paul Newman stars as Reggie Dunlop, a rough and wizened veteran who inspires his hockey team to win by playing dirty. During the season, the team picks up a young and scrappy trio called the Hanson brothers. The quickly pick up on Reggie's call for aggressive puck play and become one of the team's brightest stars. Ned Braden (Michael Ontkean) isn't used to this dirty style of hockey and his conscious gets the better of him. Ned's from the Lady Byng school of foul free and gentlemanly play. Word has it that the team is being folded a the end of the season. Reggie needing for inspiration for the team lies to them and tells them that they're being relocated, "News" of the move and the team's aggressive play has made them one of the top teams in the league. Can Reggie keep all this going until the end of the season? Will Ned learn to adapt to this new style of hockey or will he stick to his code of conduct? Followed by a DTV sequel.

About this movie
Slap Shot is a 1977 film starring Paul Newman and Michael Ontkean and directed by George Roy Hill. The film is based on a book written by Nancy Dowd, based in part on her brother Ned Dowd's experiences playing minor league hockey in the United States in the 1970s, during which time violence, especially in the low minors, was the selling point of the game.
At the time, Dowd was living in Los Angeles, when she got a call from her brother Ned, a member of the Johnstown Jets hockey team. Her brother gave her the bad news that the team was for sale. Dowd asked her brother who owned the club, and he told her that he had no idea] Dowd would move to the area and be inspired to write Slap Shot. It was filmed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Johnstown, Pennsylvania (Cambria County War Memorial); and upstate New York (Utica Auditorium and the Onondaga County War Memorial Auditorium in Syracuse).
