"You Smell Like Noodles"--The Amazing Race 16 Episode 10

We're nearing the end of the Amazing Race 16 and only four teams remain. They've raced all around the world and worked very hard to get to this point.  They all deserve kudos for that. But the race is not over yet. In these final legs, the racers' patience and skill will be tested to the limit. They're tired and fatigued, but they must keep going if they want to have a shot at winning the million dollars. Last time, Carol and Brandy were eliminated from the race due to being U-Turned by Brent and his idiotic girlfriend. What will happen in this episode and which team will be sent home? It's time to find out.

The episode begins at the Marina Barrage, which was the pit stop for the previous leg of the race. The racers receive their next clue which tells them to get on a plane and fly to Shanghai, China. After they arrive there, the teams must get in a taxi and travel to the village of Zhujiajiao. Once there, they will get on a boat, which will take them up a small river to their next clue. All four teams make their way to the airport and buy tickets for the flight to Shanghai. While the teams are sitting in the airport waiting, Brent's incredibly annoying and irritating girlfriend cackles with glee as she tells the other racers about how she U-Turned Carol and Brandy in the previous episode. She then starts clapping her hands and smiling widely, proclaiming how proud she is at being the only female left on the amazing race this season. Okay Caite, we get it. You're the only woman left. You've mentioned several times in the past couple of episodes about how much you wanted this to happen and now, it's finally occurred. Good for you. Congratulations. However, I would like to add to this a bit if Caite doesn't mind (which I'm sure she doesn't, lol). Caite is not just the only girl left in the race, she is also the only "two year old" left in the race, the only "annoying fool" left in the race, the only "uneducated dummy" left in the race, and to top it all off, she is the only "idiotic moron" left in the race as well. Caite has achieved many milestones by eliminating Carol and Brandy and has set new records of boneheadedness in Amazing Race by leaps and bounds. In honor of Caite's utterly astounding accomplishments this season, I have decided that I will continue my tradition of not referring to Caite by her first name in my reviews. A woman of her stature deserves far better than that. So instead, I will refer to Caite by her new name......OIML (Only "Idiotic Moron" Left). A name like this truly captures the essence of Caite and her foolhardy ways, lol. Joking aside, I will give credit where its due. Brent and Caite have raced quite well throughout the season and have done a good job at getting tasks done quickly. Major props go to them for that. However, I am not rooting for them to win this season. If they do, we'll never hear the end of Caite's bragging and posturing about it. That is something I don't want to happen, lol. PLEASE eliminate these two quickly. Pretty Please. With a cherry on top. lol.

1-1.jpg Jet and Cord Episode 10 The Amazing Race 16 picture by DolygateOn another related note, Dan and Jordan listen to OIML's comments about the previous U-Turn and correctly conclude that Brent and her idiotic girlfriend went after Carol and Brandy entirely for emotional reasons and not strategic ones. They then go on to say that the Cowboys have proven to be the strongest team so far and that they should have been U-Turned, not Carol and Brandy. Jordan concludes his confessional by saying that not U-Turning the Cowboys could cost the other teams dearly. Could this be a hint of foreshadowing here? It could be. Maybe this is the editors way of subtlely hinting to the viewers that the Cowboys will win the Amazing Race. It's very possible. Right now, the Cowboys are definitely the front runners in terms of competition. I could see them taking home the money when it's all said and done with. Brent and OIML may have made a HUGE mistake in not U-Turning the Cowboys. But only time will tell.

6-1.jpg Roadblock 1 Episode 10 The Amazing Race 16 picture by DolygateThe racers get on their flight and land in Shanghai, China. They take taxi cabs to Zhujiajiao and eventually get on the boats that take them to their next clue. The racers open up this clue and discover the Roadblock for this leg of the race. One team member must take a pile of dough and turn it into 1,000 grams of noodles by hand. After the team member has successfully completed this task, He PingPing (the world's shortest man) will hand the racers their next clue (unfortunately, He  PingPing passed away shortly after this was filmed. Very sad to hear that). This proved to be a very difficult task for most of the contestants. They have to wrap the dough and spread it apart the right way to turn it into noodles, which can take a lot of time. OIML arrived at the Roadblock first, but her lead quickly evaporated after Jet showed up and got to work. Jet finished the task fairly quickly and the Cowboys were the first to leave. OIML ran into some hiccups along the way, but she eventually finished as well and she, along with Brent, were able to head out. The other two teams were not as lucky. D&J (Dan and Jordan) and L&M (Louie and Michael) had taxi drivers who didn't know how to get to Zhujiajiao which cost both teams valuable time. Eventually, both teams make it to the roadblock. Louie and Jordan choose to do the task for their respective teams and they both struggle with it for a long time. Louie eventually realizes that adding flour to the dough helps to spread it apart which makes it easier to convert it into noodles. Louie applies this technique to his dough and completes the task, allowing the Detectives to be the third team to leave the Roadblock. Jordan is the last person left and gets extremely frustrated. He's not making the noodles in the right way and he almost has a meltdown. His brother, Dan, hugs him and gives him support. After a very long time, Jordan finally finishes the task and the brothers leave. When the two brothers get back inisde their cab, Dan says to Jordan "You smell like Noodles", lol. This task looked very time consuming and I know that I would have a rough time with it. The weather also appeared to be very cold, so that would have made things worse. Overall, it's nice to see that all the teams got through this roadblock. Dan and Jordan are bringing up the rear now, so they're going to have to stay focused if they want to avoid being eliminated this episode.

11-2.jpg Dan and Jordan Episode 10 The Amazing Race 16 picture by DolygateAfter the Roadblock is completed, the teams receive their next clue which tells them to go back to Shanghai and find the city's fashion district. Once there, teams receive their next clue which tells them to go into a fashion house and choose a model who will hand them a sketch of a specific clothing design. Then the teams must search through many racks of clothes to find the exact clothing items that match the items portrayed in the sketch. Once teams think that they have found the right articles of clothing, they must hand them to their model who will go into a dressing room and try them on. The model will come out of the dressing room wearing the outfit that the team has picked out for her. If the outfit that the model is wearing matches the outfit in their sketch, the fashion designer will hand the team their next clue. If the outfit that the model is wearing does not match the sketch, the team must go back and search through the clothes again until they find the right outfit. Most of the teams seemed to have trouble with this task. The Cowboys were the first to arrive and they joked several times about how out of their element they both are when it comes to fashion, lol. The Cowboys picked out an outfit for their model, but unfortunately, they picked out the wrong skirt for her. After finding the right skirt, the Cowboys completed the task and received their next clue. Brent and OIML show up next and complete the task fairly quickly. The last two teams ran into a bit of trouble with this task. Louie and Michael picked out several different outfits for their model, but none of them were correct. Dan and Jordan ran into the same problem as well with their outfit. Eventually, both D&J and L&M realize that the articles of clothing that they need are on the opposing team's model. After both models switched the stockings that they were wearing, both teams got the task right and were able to leave the fashion house. This task would have also been a hard one for me to do. I'm not a fashion guy by any stretch of the imagination and I simply don't have the eye for detail that one would need in order to pick out an exact outfit for somebody. I would've been in there for days trying to figure that out, lol. But luckily, all of the teams got it done and we can move on.

15.jpg Roadblock 2 Episode 10 The Amazing Race 16 picture by DolygateAfter completing the fashion house task, the teams receive their next clue telling them to go to Hong Kou Football Stadium. The teams head to the stadium and find their next clue, which is a Roadblock. Now I know what all of you are thinking. You're all saying to yourselves "But Pardolis, we already had a Roadblock on this leg of the race. There can't possibly be another one on the same episode". Well guess what, ladies and gentlemen? For the first time in Amazing Race history, there are TWO roadblocks on the same leg of the race. However, there is a catch. The team member that did not do the first roadblock earlier with the noodles MUST be the person who does this roadblock. Here, that team member must complete a puzzle. That person must take 96 giant cards and rearrange them into a picture of a chinese dragon. The team member will have a small completed version of the picture as reference to help them solve the puzzle, but that's it. Once the giant puzzle has been correctly assembled into a picture, the team member must gather up the pieces and hand them to spectactors sitting in the stands of the stadium. If the team member has handed out the pieces of the puzzle correctly to the spectactors, the spectactors will then flip over their pieces of the puzzle to the back side, revealing the location of a seat in the stadium (for example: Section 20, Row 16, Seat 33). The team member must then use this information on the back of the puzzle to search for that specific seat in the stadium. Once a team member finds that seat, the next clue will be hidden underneath it and that team can then leave the stadium. This was not an easy task and it caused some major hardships for our contestants. The biggest problem was the wind. It would suddenly pick up and send most or all of your pieces flying across the field, which meant that you had to reassemble the puzzle all over again. It was very frustrating for the people who had to perform this task. Cord reached the Roadblock first, with Brent following very closely behind. Brent thought that he could get ahead of Cord and gain the lead, but a wind gust ruined those plans and sent Brent's puzzle pieces flying through the air. Brent fell behind and Cord was able to get his puzzle completed first. He found the seat he needed to in the stadium and received the next clue. Brent soon finished shortly afterwards and he, along with OIML, headed out. Our two bottom teams have yet to come from behind and they're fighting to not be last. Michael and Dan begin working on their puzzles at around the same time. Michael becomes confused and can't seem to figure his puzzle out. Dan gets ahead of Michael and completes the puzzle for his team. Dan gets the clue and he and Jordan head out. Michael finishes dead last and by the time he does, it is dark outside. Uh-Oh. It's not looking too good for the detectives at the moment.

After the second roadblock is completed, the teams receive their next clue which tells them to head to the pit stop for this leg of the race, which is the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. The last team to arrive at the museum may be eliminated. The Cowboys get to the museum first. For winning this leg of the race, the Cowboys receive a trip to Alaska. They joke that they've won three trips around the world now (for coming in first on previous legs) and when they go on these trips, it won't be with each other, lol. Brent and OIML come in second place (they survived again. Dang it, I'm sick of these two. Every leg, I keep hoping they'll be eliminated, but they always pull through and survive. So annoying, lol). Dan and Jordan arrive in third place narrowly avoiding elimination. The Detectives have come in last. Phil tells both of them that they are out. The Detectives have a very disappointed look on their face. However, Phil has not finished his sentence. Phil completes it by saying that they're both out........in the cold! It's a fake out!!!! This is a Non-Elimination leg and the Detectives are still in the race!!!! Both Louie and Michael start high fiving and hugging each other. That was a close one there for both of them. However, Phil reminds the Detectives that they must perform a speed bump task on the next leg of the race as punishment for coming in last on this leg. Louie says that he wants to finish the Amazing Race at least in the top three and he's going to fight hard to stay in the game.

I have to admit, the Detectives have impressed me quite a bit this season. They both got off to a terrible start and I was certain that these middle aged fools would be one of the first teams to get eliminated early on. But they've hung in there and made it all the way to the final four. Good for them. Age is not stopping these two from being competitive and that's the right attitude to have. They've proven they can do well in this race, so I wish nothing but the best for them. Dan and Jordan need to pick it up if they want to stay in this. Granted, they did not come in last on this leg, but I think there's a strong likelihood that these two will be the next ones to be eliminated. The brothers get flustered too much when it comes to performing tasks and that can be a problem, especially in these final legs of the race. Hopefully, they can get their act together and head into the final three. The Cowboys are clearly leading the pack again and they are the most likely team to win it all. Will the Cowboys ride off into the sunset a million dollars richer? It sure looks like it, but only time will tell. Then there's that other team.........uuugggghhhhh. Why are they still here???? Why????? Can't OIML get off my screen now? Please? Can't Brent just dump her and race by himself???? I'll at least take that. But why, why, why is this whiner still around and doing well in the process??? I really really hope she won't make the final three, but she most likely will. If she and Brent end up winning, I'll give them their due. They've raced well for the most part. I just don't like the entitled princess all that much. Oh well. We'll see what happens.

We're getting down to the wire for this season. It all comes to an end shortly. It'll be interesting to see how this one goes down once and for all. Till next time.

I love noodles! I wonder how hard it would be to make them...another fantastic review, Pard!

Yeah, the racers seemed pretty stressed out when having to make the noodles. It was cold outside too apparently, so that made it even more difficult. I think I'd have a hard time making the noodles. I'd probably be out there all day trying to get that task done, lol.

Yeah, making noodles sounds like fun in theory, but in a racing competition...I might have been stuck in the same boat as you too. And it being cold...? I wouldn't have been able to move!
