Season 6, Episode 9: Wilson
What gives a show longevity in my opinion is how well it can hold up with each new season and what it does to keep it's basic premise and formula from getting too stale. While I love House to death, it wasn't without it's problems in seasons three through five. The formula almost became, in the words of a friend, "a parody of itself." Couldn't have agreed more. What surprised me the most about this most recent season, however, is that the makers decided to go places with the characters and ditch the formula in lieu of characterization.
The season premiere did it, and now this episode has done the same by shifting the focus entirely on Wilson, someone we haven't seen the point of view of in awhile. In fact, the episode has very little House or his crew to speak of and when they are onscreen we get the sense that there's another episode running parallel to this one.
I seriously hope that there's more of these character-based episodes in the future, as they are a nice aside from the patient-a-week that we've come to expect. I sense great things for the rest of this season!
