So far ... Sunday looks like the best day for Coachella 2010

So Coachella 2010 line-up is out and Sir Thomas Yorke is playing Sunday night and surprisingly he’s not the main-main headliner – The Gorillaz are. ???  When did the Gorillaz trump Thom Yorke?  Even Pavement is higher up the headlining ladder than Thom Yorke … as much as I dig Stephen Malkmus ... I mean, come on... this is Thom Yorke ... lead singer of Radiohead ... writer of Kid A, declared by Rolling Stone as album of the decade.  !!!

Thom is billed with four question marks.  I am not entirely sure what that means.  Maybe he's just being secretive again.  During his “secret” shows in Los Angeles, the Orpheum theatre had changed the marquee to say: ??????, not revealing: 1) Thom was playing 2) or would be performing with Flea.  When I first heard that Flea was playing with Thom it seemed kind of outrageous – but after revisiting Eraser again, it is totally logical to have the legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers slap-bassist performing with him.  Thom’s first solo-album is such a heavy bass-driven album, so on second thought ... it makes total and perfect sense.

As far as the main-main headliners, I am only excited about Muse.  Jay-Z, okay?  I wonder if he'll be playing same time as LCD Soundsystem.

But the best night: Sunday, by far.

I usually never get super jazzed bout the headliners.  By the end of the Coachella day, standing in front of the massive Main Stage crowd, completely spent and dehydrated – leaves little energy for the headliner.  I usually typically look more forward to the bands that perform on the smaller stages and tents.

I wanna, wanna, wanna:

LCD Soundsystem

Grizzly Bear

She & Him

La Roux [really…]

Echo and the Bunnymen

The Whitest Boy Alive

Hot Chip

The xx

Julian Casablancas [tee hee] and a bunch more.  And … Gary Numan, totally forgot. ... and Spoon! ... and etc!!!

Read my Coachella review regarding decision making.  In a perfect world, Coachella would be more like a sampler meal, where I could pick and choose which bands I get to see; since inevitably, one band is playing the same time another band I want to see.

Right now as it stands, the bands listed are pretty good, sprinkled evenly through out the three-day festival.  So much so, it makes all three days seem like it'll be a blastie.  But I am hoping for another announcement for an absolutely phenomenal band... with Coachella a couple months away ... there could be time for an AMAZING addition to the lineup.

So far ... Sunday looks like the best day for Coachella 2010

BoB and Wale are both on the bill, two really great hip hop artists that completely change your opinion of hip hop/rap genre. I'm super super excited over LCD Soundsystem and Thom Yorke . Overall a lot of artists that I wouldn't mind seeing (or seeing again, 1 <3 Major Lazer) so I'm pretty excited!

I'll check BoB and Wale out... I like more underground hip.hop. Yea... it's always exciting to see the same bands in a Coachella context.

I looked over the list again ... I can't believe I totally missed DEVO! That is totally amazing. Now that I think about it... PiL and the Specials playing is kind of totally amazing.

Thanks for sharing, Melissa! Hmmmm... cool line up, but this doesn't look like it's worth traveling way out of the way for. I can't believe that the Gorillaz are headlining over Thom Yorke either! Well, I'm sure it will still be a good show :)

Aww... it's totally worth traveling out for. :D I love meeting people all over the country -- world who come out for Coachella. I know, Gorillaz over Thom? -- I mean, Damon Albarn is dreamy but he "hides" on stage during Gorillaz performances...

Cold Chillin' at Coachella
I had the most amazing time at Coachella. I tried to write a real review but the amount of things i need to process to get there is wayyyy too much. I am still recovering from my three days in the desert. Here is what I can comprehend what happened to me. Ask me questions and I will be happy to add more. :)      Most  Recommended Musical Act: Everyone told me go see Thom Yorke. Tom What? I didn’t and I can’t say if I’m upset or not. It wasn’t like …
