Bruce Lee's been a big hero for me. Reading about him and Jackie Joyner Kersey have inspired me to be less of a couch potato. Great athletes stretch the idea of what humans are capable of. The idea of a such  a small person being so physically powerful means a lot.

I have read the Tao of Jeet Kune Do. It's an amazing read becase it explains martial arts, creativity, scientific exploration of efficient human body motions, and philosophy.

More than anything, I love Bruce's quotes. Here are some of my favorites. I'll be adding more.

"Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup,it becomes the cup.You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash or it can quell.Be water my friend."

when asked about creativity, acting, martial arts, life:
"Truth has no path.Truth is living and, therefore, changing.Awareness is without choice, without demand, without anxiety;in that state of mind, there is perception. To know oneself is to study oneself in action with another person.Awareness has no frontier; it is giving of your whole being, without exclusion."

You might also want to check out some of the books John Little has written on Bruce. There's also a nice website dedicated to Bruce. As I recall its called Bruce Lee: The Divine Wind, of all things.

Bruce was an absolute genius. If you have not already done so you might be interested in checking out Krishnamurti, lots of Bruce Lee ideas came from him, One of Krishnamurti's famous saying was Truth is a pathless land. I could recommend The first and last Freedom if you're interested. http://www.amazon.com/First-Last-Freedom-Jid...&qid=1245538948&sr=8-16

These quotes really reflect Bruce's background in Chinese philosophy and were a real mind opener to most of his American fans.

About this actor

Wiki

Bruce Jun Fan Lee (November 1940 – 20 July 1973) was an American-born Chinese Hong Kong martial artist, philosopher, instructor, martial arts actor and the founder of the Jeet Kune Do combat form. He is widely regarded as the most influential martial artist of the twentieth century and a cultural icon. He was also the father of actor Brandon Lee and of actress Shannon Lee.

Lee was born in San Francisco, California, and raised in Hong Kong until his late teens. His Hong Kong and Hollywood-produced films elevated the traditional Hong Kong martial arts film to a new level of popularity and acclaim, and sparked the first major surge of interest in Chinese martial arts in the West. The direction and tone of his films changed and influenced martial arts and martial arts films in Hong Kong and the rest of the world as well.

Lee became an iconic figure particularly to the Chinese, as he portrayed Chinese national pride and Chinese nationalism in his movies. He primarily practiced Chinese martial arts (Kung fu), particularly Wing Chun. Later he developed his own "style' Jeet Kune Do which means the way of the intercepting fist.
