I had followed Matt Damon's movies right from the very beginning (almost, he was in supporting roles before that, for about 9 years or so).
Good Will Hunting was the X-factor, the one that made it big for Matt Damon & Ben Affleck. The script was written jointly by Damon & Affleck. The film won 2 Oscars (best writing & supporting role for Robin Williams' portrayal of ) & many others.
In the same year, Damon went on to make The Rainmaker (based on John Grisham's book) (co-starring Danny DeVito). Still, in 1998, he also has a role in Saving Private Ryan where Tom Hanks has the lead role. A year later, he was the bad guy in The Talented Mr. Ripley.
The Legend of Bagger Vance is a movie for the golfer in general. Directed by Robert Redford & co-starring Will Smith (acted as Bagger Vance), it's a movie where the essence is only in a statement by Bagger Vance and that is this:
Bagger Vance: Put your eyes on Bobby Jones... Look at his practice swing, almost like he's searchin for something... Then he finds it... Watch how he settle hisself right into the middle of it, feel that focus... He got a lot of shots he could choose from... Duffs and tops and skulls, there's only ONE shot that's in perfect harmony with the field... One shot that's his, authentic shot, and that shot is gonna choose him... There's a perfect shot out there tryin' to find each and every one of us... All we got to do is get ourselves out of its way, to let it choose us... Can't see that flag as some dragon you got to slay... You got to look with soft eyes... See the place where the tides and the seasons and the turnin' of the Earth, all come together... where everything that is, becomes one... You got to seek that place with your soul Junuh... Seek it with your hands don't think about it... Feel it... Your hands is wiser than your head ever gonna be... Now I can't take you there Junuh... Just hopes I can help you find a way... Just you... that ball... that flag... and all you are...
My favorite movie after Good Will Hunting?
Finding Forrester!!! Damon didn't have a big role here but this is such a great movie I thought I'd included it in this review as well. I love movies that's thought provoking & have unique story lines. They say if you like Good Will Hunting, you'll definitely like this one. That's perfectly correct!!! Sean Connery & Rob Brown did an excellent & convincing act in this one! It's a case of when the student is ready, the teacher will appear! See the parallel between Good Will Hunting & Findin Forrester?
All the Pretty Horses is the millenium movie which would have been made even if it only attracts 4 audience. That's something I read back then after I had seen the movie. Count me in as 1! The movie is one to be watched & experienced, not one to be talked about. CROSS-Check! It's not All the Pretty Horses that I am referring to, it's The Horse Whisperer. Again, Robert Redford is the director & The Horse Whisperer is something truly special. It is however, not Matt Damon's! I'm including it here as I don't think I'll be writing a review on Robert Redfort!
Now, back to Matt Damon.
His more recent productions that are popular are The Bourne trilogy (Identity, Supremacy, Ultimatum) (Ahem, no, it's not Bond, James Bond… but Jason Bourne!) & the Ocean series (11, 12, 13). These are high profile movies which are great entertainment but not of much substance imho. They are entertaining enough & I did catch all the Bourne movies. However, I'm not that into the Ocean series even though there'a a large cast of big names like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Al Pacino, Andy Garcia, Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones, etc…
For whatever reason, Syriana is a movie that doesn't make sense to me. It may well be a true portrayal of what's happening in politics. I try to steer clear of politics of any kind if I can help it, even in movies!
What did you think of this review?
