While I agree with his opinions on some movies (such as his praise for Grave of the Fireflies and Martin Scorcese's best movies), I always take his reviews with a huge grain of salt because his reasoning for liking and hating movies is inconsistent and sometimes has the dumbest reasons for liking or hating certain movies.
UPDATE April 9, 2013: The fact that Roger Ebert is dead doesn't diminish the fact that most of his movie reviews are lousy.
My all-time favorite Roger Ebert moment didn't have anything to do with movies. There was a certain sportswriter for the Chicago Sun-Times since the 90′s who was known as a real windbag. This sportswriter was verbose as hell, yes, but he was also bombastic, loudmouthed, egotistical, and petty.
