Jen Lancaster is one of the funniest authors I've ever read. I finished her book Bright Lights, Big Ass in about 3 hours, because I could not put it down. Her books are all memoirs or collections of funny anecdotical life. I don't know how she gets herself into these situations, but I thoroughly enjoy reading about them. She is definitely relatable as a character, because she is far from perfect and admits it herself. I love that she is able to make fun of herself for a living, it sure is enviable! Obviously since she does not have to make up characters, all of them are multi-dimensional. Her family is crazy, her dogs are crazy, and sometimes her and her husband are crazy.
I have only read two of her books so far, Bright Lights and Such a Pretty Fat, which we both hysterical. Bright Lights did not really have as much as a solid theme to it as Pretty Fat did, but it was just as entertaining. I would relate Jen Lancaster to authors such as David Sedaris or Chelsea Handler. Sedaris and Handler also just use things they have been through, embellish them, and let life make us laugh.
