Back in 1979, an English Goth band known as Bauhaus recorded this gem of a song "live in the studio" during one single take. Released in August of that year, " Bela Lugosi's Dead" was the band's first major single which would prove to be their most famous work. Over 9 minutes in length, Peter Murphy's vocals aren't heard until the listener is almost three minutes into the song. With instant comparisons to The Doors or Pink Floyd, it was almost inevitable that the song was destined for many great things.
To this day, many movies & TV shows have utilized this song although most forms of media have either sampled the work or used a condensed version. Perhaps the greatest example that comes to mind when I think of Bauhaus' infamous sound would be the cult fave vampire film "The Hunger", which was a fairly big hit in the early eighties & still maintains it's cult following nearly 25 years after it's initial release.
There are many songs that should be played all month long during Shock-tober & are essentials on Halloween night. In fact, there are way to many to fill even a handful of blank discs if you were to make a CD for your Halloween party. However, very few really evoke the sadness of film aficionados everywhere who mourn the passing of Bela Lugosi or any great late actors who've contributed so much to the horror industry. Perhaps very few will ever really have such a moody atmosphere while paying tribute to one of the greatest actor's that ever graced the silver screen.
Note Of Trivia: Bela Lugosi was, in fact, buried in his Dracula cape.
White on white translucent black capes Back on the rack Bela Lugosi's dead The bats have left the bell tower The victims have been bled Red velvet lines the black box Bela Lugosi's dead Undead undead undead The virginal brides file past his tomb Strewn with time's dead flowers Bereft in deathly bloom Alone in a darkened room The count Bela Logosi's dead Undead undead undead

Bauhaus were an English rock band formed in Northampton in 1978. The group consisted of Peter Murphy (vocals), Daniel Ash (guitar), Kevin Haskins (drums) and David J (bass). The band was originally Bauhaus 1919 before they dropped the numerical portion within a year of formation. With their dark and gloomy sound and image, Bauhaus are generally considered the first gothic rock group.
Bauhaus first broke up in 1983. Peter Murphy began a solo career while the other members continued as Tones on Tail and, later, Love and Rockets. Both enjoyed greater commercial success in the United States than Bauhaus had, but disappeared from the charts in their homeland. The band reunited for a 1998 tour and on a more permanent basis in 2005. The group announced plans to disband again following the release of their final album, Go Away White, in 2008.
