This sex is on fire

I think I may have had the Kings of Leon in my itunes library for about two years before I ever really listened to any of their music. Shocker, I know. Thinking back now, I can't fathom how I could have overlooked such awesomeness.
Their sound is what has been described by those (presumably) in the know as southern rock, particularly in their earlier work ... although a foray into other influences such as blues and alternative rock are evident in their later albums. I've never been one to define music by any genre classifiable by industry standards, but I'll take their word for it. To me Kings of Leon is liberated vocals accompanied by slick bass and guitar riffs with freewheeling beats.
They've been around since the early 2000's but it's only recently that Kings of Leon seemed to have approached the level of success hinted at in Holy Roller Novocaine and Youth and Young Manhood. While I certainly don't begrudge them the much deserved acclaim, there is a part of me that wishes they would stay away from total mainstream and just keep on singing their dirty, grungy, bluesy rock.
Some fun tracks to check out:
  • The Bucket
  • Taper Jean Girl
  • Molly's Chambers
  • Pistol of Fire
  • Sex on Fire
  • Revelry
  • 17
  • Notion
Bear with me ... I don't usually write music reviews because I generally feel that music is something that isn't easily put into words and should be experienced and interpreted individually. That being said, Kings of Leon is definitely music everyone should experience.
Check it and rock out.

Nice review. I heard thse guys back when they were touring with U2 and thought they had potential. It seems like they really found their sound with this album and I dig it. I hope they stick with it.

"there is a part of me that wishes they would stay away from total mainstream and just keep on singing their dirty, grungy, bluesy rock." I totally agree. I loved the guitar-work on their first album and the raw vocals. When I heard the newer vocal style I immediately thought of Michael Bolton. That's bad. They need to get over the sex thing. Sex n Rock n Roll go together but titles like Pistol of Fire are a bit embarrassing. Better to be slightly obscure like Plant and talk about squeezing his citrus fruit...

This band... I can't say enough good and there really,  honestly,  is nothing bad to say.     I came upon them one night in my travels across the suggestions in I-Tunes. Most of the time the suggestions are way off for my tastes. This time they were right on!      Every once in a while in music, you find a band where you can appreciate something in every single song on the CD.  The last time I experienced that was with Coldplay. …
