Ok, I liked the book. Because it felt very familiar. It is a collection of Buddhist thoughts and teachings with a new twist. I also think Eckhart explained some of those thoughts in a way that resonates with me. When I read some books on Buddhism I got the feeling that the purpose was to just be, in the now, that's it. I got the feeling that sitting on a street corner with no job or food would be okay, because I was in a deep state of "being". Luckily I never took it to that level. But Eckhart explains it a little differently, be in the now, because that's all there really is, but have some plans for later just in case.
His writing on consciousness was easy to comprehend and I also liked his explanation of ego. I think its important to understand your ego and make sure you control your ego and don't let your ego control you.
I think there is a lot of old information here that is presented in a new way. If you follow the three modalities of awakened doing, which are acceptance, enjoyment, and enthusiasm in all you do, you really can't go wrong. And if you do go wrong, it probably won't be by much.
My emotional 'reaction' to this book was actually more of an understanding, and more importantly, an awareness of "presence". I felt very calm and present while reading this book, which actually created an experiencial quality to this inquiry. Typically most books like this read like advise, so you learn what you 'should' do, instead of the actual 'hand-holding' experience of bringing you there. In addition, it is staggering … more
I admit I was skeptical when I first picked up Eckhart Tolle's book. Skeptical but a little hopeful as well, if that is possible. I had just started on the hunt for some inspirational books, having decided that I needed to make some personal changes to better my life. At the same time, considering he was Oprah's newest darling, I wasn't so sure that I was interested in what would surely be a "spirituality for the masses" message. I was pleasantly surprised. … more

What I gleaned from reading Eckhart Tolle's A NEW EARTH is confirmation of things I know: 1. The voice in my head is not who I am. 2. The Kingdom of God is within. 3. I can connect to the beginning of everything. (I can't do this on command, but there are times when it feels like I am there.) 4. Life will give us whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of our consciousness. … more
I really like the concept behind inspiration cards. I have a few different decks now. I tend to have them sitting beside my computer. Each day, I pick a card and use it as reminder to ground myself, be true to my genuine self, and stay in the moment. Sometimes, I pick an extra one or two when I'm having a difficult day or just need to re-center myself. I've read The Power of Now. I have yet to read A New Earth. Something within The Power of Now really resonated deep within … more
