We all learned about the holocaust and WWII in school but not from this perspective.  Anne Frank is an amazing writer and her account of her life during these terrible times is just amazing.  Who would have known that such a young child would have such insight to what was actually going on.  Anne Franks diaries are just amazing, but this book was just as thought provoking, thank you to the people that helped hide our fellow people from the Nazis.  Horrible times, but a great book for us to remember not to repeat them

I didn't realize that Miep Gies had written a book about the experience. I need to read this. Thanks so much for the heads up on this!

Written by the woman who helped hide Anne Frank, her family, and another family, this might be one of the most remarkable books I think I've ever read. I wouldn't say it's particularly well-written (it's not really supposed to be), it just tells the story from her perspective and it's pretty astounding.  When you think that this modest, self-effacing (but oh-so-gutsy) woman not only hid all these people for two years, bringing them food that even people on the "outside" had a hard time finding, …
