Judge Ramsey Hunt is gunned down outside of his home in San Francisco. He was just starting a case in a murder trial of Clive and Cindy Cahill. The prosecuting attorney had been someone who tried hard to convict the criminals he was prosecuting. Now that man has disappeared.
Ramsey is a close friend to FBI husband and wife team Lacey Sherlock and Dillon Savich.
In this taut and stimulating story, we find a message has been delivered to Savich at the FBI headquarters "For What You Did You Deserve This." Officials think this relates to the judge but still check the criminals Savich has put in jail to see if any of them just got out and has revenge as a motive.
The central part of the story about the FBI continuing to see if they can break down Clive and Cindy continues but suddenly the part about the letter joins in and two stories become one leading to a very exciting final quarter of the book.
I enjoyed the story and found the characters to be appropriately portrayed. There were a number of clever surprises that added to the entertainment of the novel.
