Christ Enlightened looks at Christianity and the foundations of Christianity from a variety of different perspectives. In this book, the author melds together historical accounts, archaeological findings, and sacred literature from various sources. His purpose is simple, to try to recreate a picture of Christ, his word, and Christianity that closest resembles that of during the time of Jesus. The result is absolutely enlightening.
In Christ Enlightened, the author presents a view of Christ and the founding of Christianity with a few very key differences. Jesus is seen as a great man, indeed an enlightened and extremely courageous man, who looked to guide people to look within, to be one with God, to be the sons and daughters of God as is our birthright. He was not a God, was not born of a virgin, and did not die for our sins. These were additions to make Christianity more palatable to the new Roman converts in the centuries following Christ's death.
Christ Enlightened is an important book. I'm not saying you have to take every word that the author says as gospel. That isn't the intention of this book. No, more importantly, this work makes you think and encourages you to go look for your own answers and your own truth.
