Ten days ago I received the happy news that I will become a grandma for the first time in November so this book came along at a very opportune time as I plan to give it to my daughter. This journal has something for every single day of the pregnancy-- each day contains a brief description of what is going on with the baby on this day, a suggestion for what the mother can do for the baby, a description of what is happening to the woman's body and something the mother can do for her body. Each day also contains space for the mother to write how she is feeling and any thoughts she has about the baby. It also contains quotes from new mothers scattered throughout the pages. The information about the baby is fascinating-- for instance, on Day 189 we learn that the baby's heart is beating at about twice the rate of the mother's. There are pages to put pictures of the mother's expanding tummy, and a page for Dad to write his thoughts.

A lot of the information will no doubt be reassuring to the parents to be and it will help let them learn a lot about their little one before it is born. I enjoyed reading through it and know I would really have enjoyed a book like this when I was pregnant with my kids.

Just a note-- someone will need to take a pen and write down the dates, counting backwards from the expected due date of the baby as the date fields in the book are left blank. This is certainly understandable, but I think a lot of women won't bother doing this and will probably just guestimate where they fall in the book as they progress through it.

I can see this being a lovely kind of gift to pass on from mother to daughter-- if my daughter has a girl, she can give her completed journal to her daughter when her daughter becomes pregnant, along with a blank journal of her own. What a great opportunity to bond with baby and grandma all at the same time!

Going into my third pregnancy, I find the information in this book to be short and concise, but gives you specifics about the approximate timing of your baby's development -- when the heart starts to beat; when the eyes form; when the baby should be moving, etc. Though I'm a seasonal mom its been a while since my last pregnancy (8 years) so its great to re-cap on what my body is going through (again). Plus I fine it pretty cool that tracks pregnancy symptoms, such as nose bleeds, constipation, …
