Amazing book, Suspensful and Romantic.

Drea Rousseau is the heroine of this thrilling, suspensful and romantic book. She had a hard childhood and all she wanted was to be rich and surrounded by pretty and expensive things. When she met notorious drug lord Rafael Salinas, she knew he could provide exactly that type of life, if she was his mistress. By portraying herself and slow, sweet and dumb, and only interested in pretty things and shopping, she secured her position as his girl and was living the life- beauty salon trips every week, shopping every day, spending as much as she wanted. She was living the life of luxury- but it was getting old, acting stupid and having everyone treat her as such. Salinas rarely took special care when addressing business in front of Drea. During one such business meeting, Drea was taken by surprise when an assassin asked for payment not by money, but by her. He wanted her, just once. Salinas was not the type of man to share his woman, but by not doing so, he would lose the valuable services of this assassin. So he agreed.
Drea was dumbfounded that Salinas would just hand her off like that, like a piece of meat, and was enraged, plus terrified that she'd be alone with this terrifying killer. She didn't expect how gentle and attentive he'd be, and it awoke a hunger in her- having someone dote on her  and not expect her to do all the work, with nothing in return. She had become accustomed to only servicing Rafael, and now that she had been truly sated for the first time ever, she found herself suddenly unable to live the life as she currently was, she knew now what she was missing.
Thanks to her careful research and backup plans, (she knew Rafael would eventually tire of her, and move on to the next mistress), she had more than enough information and resources to jack his money and run. So that's what she did, to get back at Salinas for pawning her off as a piece of meat, nothing more than a car he might loan to a friend. Being the 'dumb' girl she was, she had a good day's head start before anyone even suspected she might have run off, rather than being a victim of foul play by one of Salina's enemies. Salinas is enraged in turn, that he had been duped by this girl, and she had taken 2 million of his money. So Salinas send the very same assassin that had caused all the trouble after her, to exact his own revenge.
The story goes on as the assassin hunts her down, and wars with himself- Should he kill her and accept the $2 mil as payment, or should he let her live- this outrageously smart and sexy woman that had bested the arrogant Salinas? The woman he can't forget about, going against everything he was, and stood for- how could he have any type of feelings for a woman he only met once?
There are so many twists and turns in this book, and more than once I found myself gasping out loud or gripping the book tighter. It keep me up all night, I simply couldn't put it down.
Linda Howard writes exceptionally well, and creates riveting characters you can't help but like. The danger level is high, the romance level is high, and the mix is explosive- I highly recommend this book to any who love a good book.

Drea Rousseau has not lived a good life. At a very young age she learned about heartache and as a result has gone through great lengths to make sure she would never feel that again. Using her wits and her body she has spent her years manipulating men into getting what she wants and playing whatever role is needed.    As an arm-charm to a ruthless drug lord and criminal, Drea thought she had it pretty good. She had no delusions about what their relationship was or was not, she …
