Fantastic Addition to The Dragon of Starlight Series

When Warrior ended, Koren was facing a difficult choice: a) try to raise the damaged star Exodus into the sky without repairing its wound, knowing the star would fall again or b) repair the damaged star and in doing so lock herself inside Exodus forever. Both choices have risks and neither are options she'd like to choose. Deflated and overwhelmed, she calls out to the white dragon for guidance and help, but that assistance comes in an unconventional manner that forces Koren to take a closer look at herself and accept responsibility for past decisions.

Meanwhile Jason and Elyssa join together to find Koren. During their quest they meet up with a couple of unlikely allies--Fellina and Xenith, Arxad's wife and daughter. While Jason and Elyssa are working with Fellina and Xenith, Arxad is working to forge an alliance with the governor of Darksphere. As the plot thickens, Diviner takes the reader deeper into the mysteries of Starlight, its past and the unusual, turbulent relationship between dragons and humans.

One of the best parts of fantasy fiction is when the author is completely comfortable with the world they created and are the master of that environment. The questions of plausibility fade and possible inconsistences become less important, because once the author is in control, they make the rules and the reader is left to enjoy and tag along with the author's imagination. In Diviner, it is obvious that Bryan is Starlight's creator with a passionate story of freedom, love, and courage to share with his readers.

Each book in this series has been better than the one before it. What started out as a standard fantasy novel with an underlying Christian allegory has expanded into a complex story with numerous, excellent spiritual themes. From the beginning, this series has teased the reader with the story of Moses leading the children of Israel from Egyptian slavery. This aspect of the series has steadily grown and in Diviner takes center stage. Bryan does an excellent job building this analogy while carefully developing the characters to fit the overall story.

It has been a lot of fun to see the history of Starlight and Darksphere develop. This is an instance in which what was expected was soon exposed as the evolution of the relationship between dragons and humans. It's always nice when the reader gets more than a flat relationship between two people groups and instead is graced with a complete history of how the characters came to their current situation. This is yet another way in which Davis took a basic concept and through inventive, imagination expanded it to add another dimension to his created world.

I am really enjoying this series. Diviner does not have a particularly satisfying ending, but at least everything should be revealed and explained soon in the final book of the series, Liberator. For those that enjoy fantasy, The Dragons of Starlight series is an excellent choice. Of course, it's also a great choice for those who simple like to watch an author create and nurture a story.

A little bit about me. I read primarily Christian fiction. My favorites are suspense, with supernatural elements always being a plus. I most enjoy books that will keep me thinking well after I'm done … more
