The classic 1897 gothic horror novel, written by Irish author Bram Stoker, about the vampire Count.
< read all 40 reviews The character of Dracula is depicted as a blood-thirsty vampire. The opening scene is priceless.
An old time carriage is seen traversing a winding road until reaching the infamous castle
where Count Dracula resides. En route, the neighboring villagers warn the travelers of the dangers
inherent in the neighborhood of Dracula's Castle.
The scene is eerie and one wonders why anyone would travel to the castle essentially unaccompanied
at night against the backdrop of the frightening folklore conveyed by the townspeople. The persona
of Dracula is an aristocratic figure who speaks well and adheres to the niceties of formal
introductions and treatment of guests. For those who know better, the advice would be to run like hell
while there is still time to escape almost certain doom.
The story is very engaging. The English diction is presented in the highest order of the belles lettres
style of writing- although the storyline is anything but light literature. Read the book if you dare
but do so during the cover of day. Remember the things that frighten Dracula like the sign of the cross
and mirrors.
