The Bottom Line: Keep it in the bathroom for your guests.
Some books are just begging to be looked at. And with a name like “Everyone Poops 410 Pounds a Year”, this is one such book. Written by Deuce Flanagan with art by David R. Dudley.
At first glance, this very slim paperback is a throwaway, clocking in at a whopping 64 pages. The kind of book you flip through at Borders waiting for your wife to finish, well, going to the bathroom.
But this book is surprisingly entertaining and enlightening.
Example: Did you know that a man named Thomas Crapper is credited with popularizing the toilet and improving the toilet flushing technology? Seriously. The Crapper was actually named after a dude named Crapper. Who knew?
This book is chock full of trivia, insights, and even a nugget of health info all about most guys’ favorite morning pasttime. If your poop is green, layoff the salad. If it’s black, get yo butt to the doctor.

As a result it should be noted that this book is for grown-ups (and it says so on the cover). While there’s nothing in the book that will scar your kids for life, there are lots of euphemisms for poo. And the pictures are often hilariously crass. We are talking about crap here. Let’s be adult about it.
So I recommend this book (and not because Ulysses Press sent me a complimentary review copy) and I recommend you keep it in the bathroom. Your guests will undoubtedly pick it up and start reading it and later begin conversations such as “hey Bob, lay off the habanero artichoke dip. It’ll burn your butt on the way out, too.”
It might be smelly, but poop is fascinating. Just ask any kid who has read or been read to EVERYONE POOPS by Taro Gomi. The discussion of such a topic can easily lead to toilet humor, but when you're talking about poop, that's to be expected. EVERYBODY POOPS 410 POUNDS A YEAR is kind of the adult version of EVERYONE POOPS. It's a tasteful, yet humorously illustrated book full of facts about poop. Through a series of illustrated diagrams, the book shows what happens to your poop after … more
