If you are one of those people who absolutely must have a manual for everything you take on, then Facebook: The Missing Manual will complete your collection. This is one of those books that documents the extremely obvious. Don't know how to set up an account? Most people find that the words "Sign up, It's free" together with a grid marked "First Name," "Last Name," and "Email," is pretty self-explanatory. But if you are one of the very few people who wants a book with a small screen shot of the page--well this book is for you.

The main thing most people need to know about Facebook: The Missing Manual is that it won't give you more than the basics. Its not a very expensive book, but considering that this information is pretty self-explanatory to those who check out the site, most people will find its a needless expense. There are a few pages for recruiters and a few more for job seekers, but both provide only the most obvious information.

Its a shame because there is a place for a Facebook guide that provides more sophisticated strategies for marketers, recruiters and networkers. Unfortunately this is not it.

I consider myself a serious Facebook user and spend more time on that website every day than I care to admit. However, even I feel that I have only scratched the surface of all the possibilities that everyone's favorite social network has to offer. This point has been reinforced for me when I picked up E. A. Vander Veer's "Facebook …

I'll cut to the chase. If you are internet savvy and spend a lot of time online, then this book probably doesn't have many insights for you. If you are somewhat new to the internet and/or Facebook, then this could be a useful tool for you. As with any publication of this sort, it will be out of date within several months. Until then it does have some useful tidbits for those interested in the world of Facebook.     I've been on Facebook for over 2 years and didn't find much in …

For a new user, Facebook can be a bit overwhelming. Facebook's own Help resource is, to be charitable, weak.     "Facebook: The Missing Manual" is hand holding for those who need it. Personally, I am not the kind of person who needs hand holding - but still found quite a bit that was new to me in this book and I've been using Facebook for a fair amount of time.      Author Vander Veer has a comfortable writing style. She does not try to be funny, which is …
