Good for Folks New to FaceBook

I'll cut to the chase. If you are internet savvy and spend a lot of time online, then this book probably doesn't have many insights for you. If you are somewhat new to the internet and/or Facebook, then this could be a useful tool for you. As with any publication of this sort, it will be out of date within several months. Until then it does have some useful tidbits for those interested in the world of Facebook.

I've been on Facebook for over 2 years and didn't find much in this book that I already hadn't already figured out. But there are some insights that were new to me and it is written in a very easy to explore and enjoyable manner. Newbies to Facebook can get up to speed very quickly after browsing though this book and regular users may even find some answers to questions that may have been nagging them. It covers the spectrum: from the casual user to the business user to the mobile user, and topics regarding privacy are pretty well laid out.

All in all, a well done book. Not overly in-depth, but as much as a newcomer or the casual user will need and then some. Don't expect any revelations, but if you want Facebook for Dummies, then this more than fits the bill.

I consider myself a serious Facebook user and spend more time on that website every day than I care to admit. Let's just say that I am the person that friends contact when they need an advice on how to set up some obscure Facebook Wall or privacy configuration. However, even I feel that I have only scratched the surface of all the possibilities that everyone's favorite social network has to offer. This point has been reinforced for me when I picked up E. A. Vander Veer's "Facebook …

For a new user, Facebook can be a bit overwhelming. Facebook's own Help resource is, to be charitable, weak.     "Facebook: The Missing Manual" is hand holding for those who need it. Personally, I am not the kind of person who needs hand holding - but still found quite a bit that was new to me in this book and I've been using Facebook for a fair amount of time.      Author Vander Veer has a comfortable writing style. She does not try to be funny, which is …

If you are one of those people who absolutely must have a manual for everything you take on, then Facebook: The Missing Manual will complete your collection. This is one of those books that documents the extremely obvious. Don't know how to set up an account? Most people find that the words "Sign up, It's free" together with a grid marked "First Name," "Last Name," and "Email," is pretty self-explanatory. But if you are one of the very few people who wants a book with a small screen shot of the …
