When I was 12, a family friend gave it to me, and I didn't really know why.  I thought there were some interesting facts in it, but I didn't give it much thought.  About a year ago when I was looking through some old books, I found this old copy and I re-read it.  GW was a good man and great role-model.  There are some great rules and some important outlooks that can be extruded from this small collection of thoughts on behavior.

This books makes a great gift and I recommend it.

It was a while ago that I commented on your review here. I just read a review of The Portable Patriot by @Jerry_Saperstein that I thought you would enjoy as well! :)

Thanks for pointing out this little book Josh! I'll have to keep it in mind for when I start homeschooling my daughter, it would go great with some early American history lesson.

I'd love for my son to have a Founding Father as a role model rather than, say, a pop star. I'll find a copy for my kid, thanks!

Its straightforward and easy to understand. The lessons are the kind that a grandparent would give to a grandchild. It talks about how to behave in public and how to be respectful. Most of the lessons are common sense, but I think the idea of showing a young child that our first president had rules that he lived by, it is possible to set a good example. They are very simple.

Was wondering if you might expound on exactly what this book teaches? I have a three-year-old boy and he's pretty polite, but of course I'd like for him to be more so as he gets older especially since he'll probably be an only child. Thank you!

Law student still trying to figure it out. I am into music, animals, good food and anything that is pleasure oriented. Good books, wine, and movies are my faves and I dig quiet time also.
