A book by Dr. Seuss that was first published in 1960.
< read all 119 reviewsI first heard Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss when I was a toddler. My mother had loved the book and was sure that I would and she was right. Now my own son loves it and it's a great feeling to see him enjoy a book that both I and his grandmother have also loved.
It's a great way for young children to learn words and colors. My own son began picking up on it after just a couple of read throughs and while he doesn't say many words as yet he can happily go alone and blurt out a few words from Green Eggs and Ham. It has also helped him to recognize little phrases, like “I am” and he cheerfully announces that he has eggs at breakfast and that they are not green.
It's very cute seeing a young child like him just learning to talk repeating the things that he has heard from a Dr. Seuss book. There are only about three words he can say that someone outside the family can understand as an actual word, so to hear him trying to read along with Dr. Seuss is both endearing and amusing.
Every child I have ever come across loves Green Eggs and Ham. It's been a hit at the library's summer program for toddlers and preschoolers. The rhyming is easy for children to pick up on and the words are simple enough for them to not only understand but to try to mimic. I really think Dr. Seuss had a gift and that gift helps children learn to speak, read, colors, numbers, and deeper lessons. Green Eggs and Ham is a very amusing story that is a delight to read no matter what your age. Even the illustrations are appealing to young and old alike.
This is the perfect book for any parent to share with their child, grandparents to share with grandchildren, and so on.
