The American version of the first novel in J.K. Rowling's fantasy series.
< read all 32 reviews This book is the first one in the Harry Potter series, and in my opinion is one of the best. You first see Harry living with his Muggle (non-magical) aunt, uncle, and cousin who torment him to no end. They treat as an inferior person, making him sleep in a closet under the stairs. Harry notices that strange things have been happening about him; he then finds out that he is a wizard, and his whole life changes. The book introduces Harry's soon to be best friends, Ron and Hermione, as well as other lovable characters such as Hagrid, Neville, and Dumbledore. Harry goes to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the reader gets to see the world through Harry's eyes as he navigates his first year there. We see Harry have his first encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort in the form of Professor Quirrel and get to see how great of a wizard he (Harry) actually is. I really like the introduction to Hogwarts and Harry's whole magical life. J.K. Rowling does a great job in introducing the characters and everything about the wizarding world. I would definitely recommend this book to any person of any age; it is an enchanting book worth reading.
