The master of photomontage teaches you how.

This is the Sixth Edition of "How To Cheat In Photoshop". I own all of them (and one of the two editions oriented toward Photoshop Elements).

Steve Caplin's books are on a very short list of the best Photoshop books available.

This book (and its forerunners) will not teach you he very basics of Photoshop.

But they will teach you, patiently and in great detail, how to create "realistic photomontages".

Each edition is updated to cover the latest version of Photoshop: this edition covers a number of techniques and tools available only in Photoshop CS5, But most of the techniques can be used with earlier versions, though some are specific to CS3 and CS4.

The book has grown from a relatively slim volume to its present 449 pages.

There are no filler pages. Every technique is presented on a two-page spread.

This is a complete training course and the chapters should be read in order. The first chapter on selection techniques is particularly important.

To help you along, there is a DVD with 3 hours of video tutorials and many example files.

For those who have earlier versions of this book, you won't be disappointed. While many of the examples and lessons have been carried over from the original and earlier versions, some have been updated with new photos and quite a few have been heavily reworked.

Overall, if you have any inclination toward doing photomontage work in Photoshop, this is the book - the training course - you need.

Thanks for the recommendation! I really like that it includes a DVD with video tutorials, which is extremely helpful, especially as the techniques get more complicated.

Photoshop is an extremely versatile tool, that allows you to enhance the quality of images to show exactly what you want to show even where the original conditions of capture were imperfect. Refining images in this way is not "cheating" - it's more a matter of "finishing" or completing the image, refining them to the point where they better reflect the reality as the photographer envisioned it when it was shot. Sometimes, though, you want to do more than just enhance what's there, and Photoshop …

About this book

How to Cheat in Photoshop shows you how to cheat in two important ways. First, you'll learn a professional montage artist's proven-to-be-successful tips for getting the best out of Photoshop's many features quickly and efficiently, so that you can create work under deadline while still maintaining quality. Second, you'll learn how to make an image look like something else entirely, for those moments when stock imagery just won't do and you don't have the time (or funding) to set up a photo shoot. Photomontage master Steve Caplin has been a recognized leader in the world of photo manipulation for many years, and in this invaluable resource for designers, illustrators, retouchers, students, and graphic artists, he shows exactly what methods he uses to create stunning imagery used in advertising, publishing, print media, and more.

Fully updated to cover all of the new features in Photoshop CS5, this book is also backwards-compatible and can be used with any version of Photoshop. The accompanying DVD for Mac and PC contains over two and a half hours of video tutorials for additional training, and on the book's popular website www.howtocheatinphotoshop.com, you'll find even more resources such as an "Ask the Author" forum, sample images from other How to Cheat fans, and weekly challenges so that you can test your own skills and see where your creativity can take you.
