I saw the movie long before I read the book and I must say that it does not do it justice at all. I look at it this way, the book is a giant and the movie is an ant in comparison. I have always been a fan of Stephen King ever since I first saw Stand By Me, but this 1500 page novel engrossed me. I could not put it down and ended up losing a lot of sleep because I would rather read it than rest. The most interesting aspect of the book to me was not the horror and the clown, but instead the childhood friendships these boys (and girl, Beverly Marsh) had. As I get older I forget how it was to be ten or eleven years old and what power these children can have. Sorry, my attempt at humor. If you are afraid of clowns, or at least have a healthy fear of dark places like sewers and drains, this book will have your heart racing. A solid read more for the relationship aspect then for the terror in my humble opinion.

One of King's longer books, yet worth it. Adults haunted by their past when, as children, they fought a monster that has reawakened after all these years. A frightening look at what it means to be a child, fighting the fears that are more real than adults ever see... and then to be the adults who have to finish off the monsters once and for all...
