One of the off putting things is that the book won't be appealing to all audiences. It was clearly written for upper middle class Evangelicals, but its not so bad as to make it a terrible read. Also the writing could be a lot stronger in places--the authors can get into a rut sometimes, but the plot moves along well enough that I already had the next book in the series checked out from the library well before I finished the book. Note that I finished the book in about a day and a half, as I am a quick reader, but enjoyed it anyway.
Overall Left Behind can be lacking at times, but it's definitely well worth purchasing or getting from the library. Fortunately all the subplots are as strong as the main plot, which help with the shortcomings.
