I was in shock that I felt so strongly about a book. It was definitely an eye opener. I cannot believe the segregation really existed. I learned about it in school but it was never real to me. Bigger made it real for me. I would recommend the book because it changed my life. It is an easy read and is educational which is difficult to find. The setting was around the time where Blacks were considered animals. They were no longer slaves but they still had no voice. Bigger Thomas was an African American who was said to be a hoodlum. He had a record which made it difficult to find a job. Well, he became the driver to this wealthy white man. His daughter was reckless and her boyfriend was part of the Communism party. One night they all go out and the daughter comes home drunk. Bigger tries to bring her room and then everything goes down hill. I will not spoil the story, just read it and you will not regret it. The main theme would probably be do not judge a book by his cover and the color of your skin does not define who you are. Bigger was a victim of society, he let them define who he became. This book is similar to American Tragedy.
