My emotional reaction as I read this series was mostly humor, because Claire's character is witty and sarcastic, especially when she makes jokes to a person in the 17th century that would clearly make no sense to them!       I would recommend this series to anyone who loves a book that features strong character personalities, and who also love to read a bit of science fiction with a good dose of humour thrown in.  I wouldn't recommend this series …

I love the Outlander series - I think Diana Gabaldon is a fantastic writer!  The premise of the novel(s) sound really cheesy, but once you actually pick it up and start reading you'll be hooked.  The author puts years of research into her books and weaves a fascinating story into this historical time period.        The only problem (if you think this is a problem) is the series is really long.  Each book is about 1000 pages, and I think there …

This series was recommended to me by a couple of my co-workers. My reactions were mixed. The first book, Outlander, is a definite 5. Claire and Jaime each hold their own as fascinating, complex personalities and their romance is gritty, real, and appealing. Equally riveting was Claire's 20th century perspective on 17th century Scotland. Book 2 had somewhat less appeal but Book 3, Voyager, caught me again with its view of transatlantic immigration and Caribbean pirates as well as Claire and Jaimie facing new challenges. Loved this book (and the series)! It was a little hard to get into and believe. I would never have thought I would enjoy a book set in the time period that it was, but I loved it. It has some pretty racy scenes!

The first "romance" novel I have read and enjoyed! I would class this series as Science Fiction romance comedy actually, as its not your typical mushy happy ending story. I'm addicted to Diana Gabaldon after reading Dragonfly in Amber and then rushing out to find the entire series. It's about a lady called Claire in the 1940s who goes back in time through some stones in Scotland. She is thoroughly witty and the story is hilarious at stages as Claire adapts to living in the 17th century.

I began this book a little bit skeptical. As I read I became more deeply entrenched in the lives of Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser. When I finished Outlander I was devasted that the library was closed and I couldnt get the next book in the series.   Loved the clear prose, vivid imagery. Could have done without the in depth descriptions of battle at times, but that's my personal preference. The characters were fully formed, both perfect and imperfect.    Journey with Jamie Fraser and Claire through the stones to 1700's Scotland and the Colonies for tales of romance and action with their nemesis turned friend John Grey.  I liked the first books in the series but started losing interest about the fourth book in.  Not sure if Ms. Gabaldon has completed this series yet.  Has a feel like the old Dark Shadows television series when it took place in the 1700's.
