The Palestinian / Israeli conflict is perhaps not the easiest of topics to convey through the comic book medium, but Joe Sacco does a startlingly good job of it. His raw, reportage style has a real immediacy and clarity, and his moody, black and white art is packed with detail and texture. Intelligent, witty and often brutally frank and hard hitting, Sacco's Palestine is not just a great graphic novel, but a great piece of journalism.
If you enjoy books like Persepolis and Maus, or are a fan of New Journalism, you'll definitely like this. Highly recommended.

Palestine is a graphic novel written and drawn by Joe Sacco, documenting his experiences in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in December 1991 and January 1992. The book highlights the day to day plight of the Palestinian people, as a group and as individuals.

Palestine was first published in a 9-issue comic series in 1993 and collected in two volumes in 1996. The single volume graphic novel edition, which includes an introduction by Edward Said, was published by Fantagraphics in 2001. In 1996, Palestine was awarded the American Book Award.
