He was one of the most decorated agents in FBI history.  Former Special Agent James A. McGee spent a total of six years as a member of the FBI's highly specialized HRT (Hostage Rescue Team).  For the uninitiated, The Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) is the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation's elite counter-terrorism tactical team.   Essentially, the HRT is trained to rescue U.S. citizens or others who are held by a hostile force, either terrorist or criminal.   The Hostage Rescue Team was conceived in 1982 by then FBI Director William Webster as the agency was drawing up security plans for the 1984 Summer Olympics to be held in Los Angeles.  In his new 2009 book "Phase Line Green" James McGee recalls his years as a key member of the Hostage Rescue Team.  The primary focus of McGee's book is the 1991 incident at the Federal Correctional Institute in Talladega, AL when a group of violent and desperate Cuban inmates overpowered their guards and took 10 hostages. You will learn how HRT members train for these calamaties and experience first-hand the actual events as they unfolded on that hot August night so many years ago.  You cannot help but gain an enormous amount of respect for the men who so selflessly put their necks on the line to save the lives of others.

Throughout the pages of "Phase Line Green" James McGee reveals just what it takes for an individual to become a member of this highly specialized force.  HRT members must be smart as a whip, strong as a bull and mentally tough to boot.  The reality is that lives are at stake and there is simply no margin for error.  Along the way you will experience the rigorous training regimen these men must endure day in and day out.  James McGee does an outstanding job of giving his readers a window into the world of these brave men.  Furthermore, you will experience for yourself the painstaking preparations involved in getting the unit ready for possible action when McGee and his fellow HRT members are summoned to Talladega in 1991.  It seems that no stone is left unturned and attention to even the smallest of details is of paramount importance.  And finally, you will be a witness to history as James McGee and the HRT bring this dangerous situation to a heart-stopping conclusion.  You will be positively amazed at the amount of equipment each of the team members must carry into battle to get the job done.

I found "Phase Line Green" to be a fascinating read.  James McGee certainly managed to command my attention from cover-to-cover.   I learned an awful lot about a subject I knew virtually nothing about.   Highly recommended!
This is a hell of a way to earn a living. This is a hell of a way to earn a living. This is a hell of a way to earn a living. This is a hell of a way to earn a living.

I guess I would qualify as a frustrated writer. My work requires very little writing and so since 1999 I have been writing reviews on non-fiction books and anthology CD's on amazon.com. I never could … more

Product Description
Retired Special Agent James McGee offers readers a first-hand account of what it s like to be on the inside of one of the world s most elite counter-terrorism teams. On par with the British SAS and the Navy SEALs, the FBI Hostage Rescue Team is a group of highly trained men willing to sacrifice their own lives to save the lives of others. In 1991, a violent group of Cuban inmates in the Federal Correctional Institute in Talladega, Alabama, overpowered their guards and took hostages, demanding not to be deported to Cuba. As days wore on and tension escalated, the hostage takers threatened to start killing hostages. But the FBI HRT exists for just such situations. Witness the preparation and anticipation as the Team reaches Phase Line Green.
