One of the best memoirs I've read!

Memoirs can often be boring, dull, and slow. Some have sporadic scenes of excitement that punctuate their dullness here and there. But Augusten Burroughs's Running With Scissors is the exact opposite of everything I described above.

Burroughs hits the ground running in his memoir of his childhood and the disfunctional lifestyle it entailed. By the time I finished reading the book, I didn't know whether I should feel sorry or happy for the guy. On one hand, you can really guess just how badly his childhood events must have messed up his life. On the other hand, those same events provided excellent fodder for a bestselling memoir! So I guess the two balance each other out.

It's an easy read, and chances are you'll finish the book in just several days because it's hard to put down. I would recommend this book to any friend but would be cautious with some more conservative folk because it does contain some graphic scenes. Still, it's so funny and I can't wait to read it again... for the third time!

A quick, easy read and super entertaining. I question some of the truthfulness, but that doesn't take away from this being a great read.

Funny, in a way. Makes your family seem normal

Finished this up on a trip to Hong Kong. Couldn't put it down. Love the author's ability to look back on his not-so-savory life and laugh.

Explicit account of the early life of best-selling author, Augusten Burroughs-chilling, poignant and sometimes difficult to read.
