The reader (Joseph S. Maresca) believes that a loose coupling
of AI to the DBMS permits easier customizations if further
changes are planned "down the road".
- extend DBMS with AI functionality
The reader believes that this method has value. It will be
easier to change the artificial intelligence algorithm simply
by changing the AI function with minimal impact to the DBMS.
- extend AI systems so that they have DBMS functionality
-tightly integrate DBMS and AI capability
The reader believes that this method has a disadvantage in
instances where it becomes necessary to seek further
customizations of the DBMS. In addition, it is harder to test
this model because any customizations to the AI adversely
impacts the whole system including the DBMS.
A frame is defined as a data structure to describe attributes,
constraints and the type of an object or class. Frame attributes
provide storage for variables that describe an object represented
by a frame. Attributes can have multple values. Links represent
class/member relationships between frames. They are used
to build a prototype description of a complex object.
