Brother and Sister Bear are very excited that it's Christmas season in Bear Country. They're busy preparing for the church's Christmas play and buying gifts for each other. However, they're also trying to make sure they spend a little less on others so they can save quite a bit for themselves. While Mamma and Papa Bear think they should do a bit more for others, they're willing to let them learn the gift of giving on their own. Then an amazing thing happens during the Christmas play--Brother and Sister understand the joy of giving.
My kids love the Berenstain Bears. They love the books and they love the TV series. I've enjoyed reading these to my kids and lately having them read to me. The Joy of Giving is another sweet story and reflective of other books in the series. The lesson is very obvious and once the cubs understand what Christmas is truly about, they apply what they've learned generously.
The illustrations are cute and expressive--exactly what one would expect from a Berenstain Bears book. The scene with the camel bumping into the wise bears drew some great laughter. It's a fun book for pre-readers and a nice challenge for early readers. All around, this is a great addition to an enduring series.
