A book by Erik Larson
< read all 31 reviews I'm not usually a fan of non-fiction but this book was amazing. I was spellbound as I read. The author did a great job of describing the time period, it made me almost sad to live now and not then. I was in awe at the descriptions of architecture and building even though I previously had no experience with either of these. That, combined with the descriptions of the "evil" guy's psychotic personality was a great combination that kept me turning the pages. I would recommend that anyone interested in history read this book. Fans of murder mysteries would enjoy it as well. It not only entertained (my main reason for reading) but taught a lot as well (my husband's main reason for reading) so it really appeals to quite a large section of readers. I don't usually read books more than once but this one's a keeper. There is so much detail put into it, describing the buildings at the World's Fair and everything that took place that you would either want to read it very slowly or at least twice. The author did a great job of noting his sources and described in a short note at the end what exactly might not be exact fact and how he came to the conclusions he did. Overall it was an extremely well researched piece of non fiction that I would recommend to everyone.
