"The greatest firmness is the greatest mercy." Longfellow

  • Feb 25, 2011
Mitch McDeere is hired by a law firm in Memphis that specializes in tax law.

Shortly after he begins working there, he learns of the death of two of the newer associates while boating in Grand Caymon.

When he passes the bar, he's visited by an FBI agent who tells him that the firm is engaging in tax fraud with many of their clients and that the firm is owned by the mob. He also tells Mitch that his home, car and office are bugged and that he's being followed.

Mitch hires a private detective to find more about the deaths of the attorneys and two other attorneys of the firm who died in questionable situations. The detective gets Mitch the info but the firm catches the detective and kills him.

Mitch works with Avery Tolar, a long time attorney with the firm. They go to a business meeting in Grand Caymon. There, incriminating photos are taken of Mitch. Upon his arrival back in Memphis, Mitch is told that the firm holds the photos as protection in case he does anything against the firm.

We follow Mitch's life as he goes from an ambitious employee to a man in fear of his career and of his life.

This is a well plotted novel. The reader is drawn to Mitch's dilemma and can visualize something like this really happening and we hope for a successful conclusion.
