Great Series

This was one of my favorite series when I was a kid.  A few years ago I bought it again because I wanted to read it, but I lost a few of the books.  Luckily for me it was just released in a two volume set called Thirst.  This was such an interesting series because of the details that Pike wrote into it.  Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t an amazingly written book, it’s not Pride and Prejudice for teenagers.  That being said, it is a good read.  The books deal with how the main character of Sita, a 5,000 year old vampire, who looks like a teenager, deals with the life and death of those around her and the trials and tribulations that confront her at this point in her life.  You can tell, as you read the books, that they were not initially designed as a series, as say the Harry Potter books were.  The first two books don’t really deal with the larger story arch of the series. The last four books start to open up into the story that unites the series.  You should be aware that religion is one of the major topics of this series.  It isn’t preachy and it isn’t heavy handed.  It actually presents a pretty interesting view of world religion.

The novels are written in first person perspective.   The introspective monologues make this novel series different than other YA novels.  Throughout the novels Sita goes from Vampire to Human to Vampire to other things.  I just heard that Pike is releasing a third novel in this series.  I recommend this series to anyone looking for an entertaining YA novel.

Sounds interesting! I am a huge Twilight fan and I have noticed more and more this huge outbreak of vampire novels and movies however I felt like they were all Twilight knock offs. This series sounds like it was not Twilight inspired at all which is really refreshing. I like the idea that it deals with death as that is a difficult thing for many young adults to deal with. Thanks for not spoiling anything in the books or series and giving a thoughtful review!

She enrolls herself into high school, and decides to get close to him. The rest of the story goes in and out of the past where she talks about how she came to be, and she …
