My emotions were crazy reading this book! I went from Happy to sad to mad to happy to scared for my own daughters! I hate that there really are sick people out there like this.
I would recommend this book to absolutely anyone. Especially girls. It's scary but I think it's important young girls know how easily these things can happen. I made my older daughter read this book, then when the movie came out I watched it with both daughters.
This story takes place in the 70's and you can see and feel everything she describes from the clothing to the decor in the susie's families home.
Susie thinks she's in love. She's close with her family, has a normal childhood until it is all taken from her at age 14. Can she prove she was murdered or is it too late? This story was very sad but I could not put the book down!
This is very unlike any book I have read before.
Definately read the book before watching the movie. The movie is so beautiful and colorful but the book has some very different things going on in it with like with Susies mother and then end was different as well. I liked the book a lot more but I understand that some things are hard to put in a movie and there were certain parts, the real sad graphic parts that I was glad weren't put in the movie. I wouldn't have been able to watch it.

Alice Sebold's haunting and heartbreaking debut novel, The Lovely Bones, unfolds from heaven, where "life is a perpetual yesterday" and where Susie narrates and keeps watch over her grieving family and friends, as well as her brazen killer and the sad detective working on her case. As Sebold fashions it, everyone has his or her own version of heaven. Susie's resembles the athletic fields and landscape of a suburban high school: a heaven of her "simplest dreams," where "there were no teachers.... We never had to go inside except for art class.... The boys did not pinch our backsides or tell us we smelled; our textbooks were Seventeen and Glamour and Vogue."
The Lovely Bones works as an odd yet ...
