Truly inspirational book, and definitely real

Pros: Excellent concepts, easy to read.

Cons: none

The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a truly inspirational book, this book is definitely the one to read. Really great writing about real concepts.

One thing that I have learned throughout my many years of education is that if you are going to achieve anything in life, you have to be forward thinking and make it happen for yourself. Things don't just tend to come to you, you have to have the mindset of making it come to you. I have told many about my philosophies and one of my friends one day told me about a book that they read, that truly made everything that I told them make sense, and really brought what I said into reality. This book of course was "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne.

About the Book
The Secret essentially talks about how the world has covered up a massive secret to success. This secret is what has aided many in being skinny, successful, wealthy, healthy, powerful, or whatever else. The secret is something that everyone has the possibility of using, but only few understand it.

Basically, the book goes into great detail about the secret, which is essentially, self fulfilling prophecies. The author, along with a number of other greater writers talks about how positive thinking will ultimately determine what will happen in your life. If you want something to happen, then you think it true.

The author talks about scenarios such as those that are over weight. If you are fat, then you are thinking yourself fat. If you are skinny, you are thinking yourself skinny. While this sounds horribly crude and simplistic, think about it, and you'll realize the reality to it. If you are fat, it's because you aren't thinking healthy, you are thinking like a fat person would think and you are just eating whatever you want, not exercising, whatever. However, if you start to think skinny, start thinking healthy, and start thinking fitness, the pounds will fly off. This is an obvious reality. I was for the last 6-8 months thinking fat and I gained weight because of it, now that I'm thinking healthy again, thinking skinny, everything I eat is analyzed, everything I do is analyzed, and now I'm losing weight and feeling much better in life.

Another great thought is that in order to be healthy, you have to think healthy. This is so true on so many levels. There are people that are sick, but they are only sick because they think themselves sick. They just sit and let themselves be sick, rather than seeking help to get better. If you don't want to be sick, you'll be proactive and find a means of becoming better. If you are sick and you want to be sick, then you aren't going to do a thing and are just going to be miserable. Those that think healthy, think about the positives and how to fix the situation or make the best of it. Those that think negatively are going to dwell and make themselves sicker than they really are, by repressing their body into fighting back.

Success and wealth are the same way. Many people are in poverty, because they want to be in poverty. They are happy with their situation and don't try harder to pull themselves out. They don't take advantage of the thousands of grants available to them or student loans which don't have to be paid back until after graduation, all these things would get them ahead, but instead they just say they will always be lower class and they stay lower class because of it. Those that truly push themselves and think like they are wealthy are going to strive to become wealthy. For myself this is definitely true, I'm always trying to find ways of making myself more money. If this means writing 300 reviews on Epinions, fine. If this means that I'm going to go to school and get every degree imaginable, fine. I am going to find a way to be successful. Currently I hold a Bachelors in Criminal Justice, with a specialization in Law, and I am going to two schools full time for other Bachelors degrees. I do this because it is free and because I know that it will set me apart from my peers who only have a single degree. After that, I will pursue multiple Master's degrees. I do this because I aspire to have wealth after the military, and I think positively about the obtainment of wealth.

The book also talks about quite a few other topics as well, but those are the main ones that truly stuck out in my mind. Essentially the book just tells you that if something is going to happen in your life, you are the one that has to make it happen. If you aren't thinking proactively, then you aren't every going to achieve anything and will probably sit in self pity the rest of your life. However, if you are constantly thinking big, then you will keep growing and making bigger and better things happen for yourself. This is the 'secret' that the book talks about. The secret is positive thinking, self fulfilling prophecies, the secret is realizing your own potential and manufacturing a mental picture of what you want your reality to be.

The writing
The book itself was extremely well written. I applaud Rhonda Byrne on creating a book that is extremely easy to understand for virtually anyone. I just wish that this book could become a mandatory read for teenagers before they can graduate high school. If more people just thought proactively or learned to think that way, I think more people would attempt to make a better life for themselves and I am sure fewer people would just accept the status quo. Sometimes it takes quite a bit of motivation in order to achieve greatness, but without the knowledge of how to motivate yourself, many will never be able to achieve more than the norm.

This is one of those books that you will love or hate. I really enjoyed it as I believe that the energy we put out there is what we get back. The book focuses on thinking positive and controlling your own destiny. If you are struggling in your life or feel like you are surrounded by negativity it is a good book to help get you back on track. There are some world renowned spiritual teachers involved in this book and I cannot imagine they can all be wrong. That being said it can be a little over …

The true secret: convince a bunch of people that you have the secret and they will shell out cash to buy it from you.

The Secret definitely has it's pros and cons. i checked the book out of the library after having watched the original movie (where Esther Hicks/Jerry Hicks/Abraham) were included in the discussion of the enlightened experts featured in the film.      There tends to be a strong division between those readers who swear by this book and those readers who are bent on discrediting the author and the panel of experts in the film.      For me personally, …

I enjoyed the book. It was repetitive but at least it made you think more positive in the end.

A shortcut to read what the universal spiritual sense teaches. Kind of a bible without God. You can read Proverbs and earn much more!

Absolutely atrocious abortion of rational thinking. It takes a simple concept like positive thinking and tries to spin it as the magical answer to everything. It quote mines most of the historical figures it mentions. The whole "law of attraction" is bogus, as it WILL NOT work. Those who tell you it does work are guilty of selection bias and the placebo effect.
