I am currently reading the 7th book in this exciting series, All Together Dead. I hadn't even heard of this series until I watched the first 2 seasons of the tv show, TrueBlood, based off of these books. The tv show itself is captivating and I found myself wanting to know more, and I came across these books. The first two books are close to the tv series events, though different. I actually found the books and the tv show compliment each other instead of leaving something to be desired (like the twilight books to the movies). The books are all relatively short (just around 200 pages each), but so exciting you just can't seem to put the book down. It engages you in the story and as the story progresses through each novel you get sucked in a litle more book by book. Here's a little about the series in general. Sookie Stackhouse is a small town girl, working as a barmaid in the local bar. She is a telepath, and struggles not to respond to peoples thoughts out loud, so almost everyone in her little town thinks she is dimwitted and crazy. Only her brother, her boss, Sam, and her friend Tara know about her "gift". The world had just found out vampires exist after the Japanese invented a synthetic blood (hence the name TrueBlood.) and they announced that they are indeed fact, not fiction. Sookie loves anything new and can't wait to actually meet a vampire in the flesh. She finds herself sucked in immediately when a vampire named Bill Compton moves into town and walks into the bar. She finds she can't read his mind at all (which is very refreshing and relaxing for her), and he seems drawn to her as well. They end up dating and she gets sucked into the vampire world around her. Having her eyes opened to the supernatural like vampires she soon discovers her very own boss, Sam, is a shapeshifter. She also discovers the existence of other supernatural beings around her such as werewolves, witches, goblins, maenads, etc. Each book is the tale of one of her adventures, and she very often finds herself in the middle of a huge mess or assassination attempts on her life. This series has effectively grabbed hold and not let go of my interest or attention. I highly recommend this series of books!
Pros: Fun, sexy here and there, excitement, adventure, mystery, and you never know what else! Cons: Nothing major, really. The Bottom Line: When over 3 people recommend it to you, you know it's probably worth your time. Welcome one, welcome all to Louisiana, home of Sookie Stackhouse, vampire and werewolf/animal magnet extraordinaire. I'd heard all about Laurell K. Hamilton and how her books went from … more
