The Woman Warrior

  • Jun 19, 2010
This is an excellently told story about a girl who is growing up Chinese-American who is struggling to try to find her place in the world she is living in.  Through the channeling of the great woman warrior spirit, she believes that she is able to accomplish whatever problems may arise in her path.

A word of warning:  this book is not for everyone.  The first chapter deals with her ghost aunt who killed her baby.  The reason this chapter is there is so that people are able to see what kind of world China was like back then.  The mentality that they had.  It is very symbolic.  The woman whom the main character wants to be like a woman who is above that mystic symbolism.  A woman who understands what she needs to do in order to live her life.

It is a very moving story and encouraging one for anyone who feels as though they may not have the power within them to become the true woman warrior within.  This book is meant for adults although you may think that an older YA reader could get some information from it.
