While the purpose is to entertain, there is also a great deal of metaphorical philosophy in the "Peanuts" comic strip. The exaggerated characteristics of the characters and the situations they encounter are an overstated expression of life as we encounter it. My favorite strip in this book is when Charlie Brown's baseball team loses yet again and in the last caption Charlie utters, "We can't even win enough games to have a slump." I don't think there is a single working person that has not expressed that sentiment at one time in their career. Nobody was better at expressing the problems of life than Charles Schulz, he was a true genius at using simple drawings and dialog to point out the simple and complex difficulties that we face as we move through life.
