The first book in the "Twilight Saga" by Stephenie Meyer.
< read all 205 reviews Obviously the internet has been set ablaze with fan-girl hype about this book, but I'm here to tell you that, as with most over-hyped best sellers, this book stinks.
First, the lead character, Bella, an awkward high-school girl (gee, that's an original concept... NOT!) is such a wimp. Like any lead in an old-school romance novel, she just passively waits for her man to protect her. Not a particularly progressive character.
Second, Edward, the vampire Bella falls for, is technically a pedophile; he's like 8000 years old, and he's trying to pick up a teenager. Eww! And what's a vampire who lived that long still doing attending high school? That's never explained.
Bottom line: This book is an EPIC FAIL as a romance, as a horror story, and as juvenile fiction. Don't believe the hype; avoid this book by any means necessary.
