From Wall Street to Main Street

This is a book which I thought warrants a second reading. It is however,  a book which may only pave the way for a new way of thinking rather than a new way of life. Having said that, everything starts with a single thought and I'm inspired that someone does something with that thought and provide readers with a framework for what's to come.

The book is divided into 4 sections:
  1. Case for a new economy
  2. Case for eliminating Wall Street
  3. Agenda for a real-wealth economy
  4. Change the story, change the future

In terms of organization of the book, it's truly great. Chapters are not too long and are mostly engaging. It also manages to explain with enough details the workings of Wall Street for readers to appreciate what had gone on before. Essentially it entails easy reading.

On transcending the current state of affairs though, I feel the author may be way too optimistic and do not necessary appreciate what it entails to change a system that's been in place for a century or so (and possibly more, when you think about it in somewhat similar form but by any other name). It may even be plausible to change when one thinks about it but when it comes to implementation, there is no way anyone or even a government could wipe out an entire Wall Street (not to mention that kind of form has been replicated all over the world!). In that sense, the book may at best be an academic one and not a revolutionary handbook.

In any case, it is refreshing to read something that is more original than most financial books are. I'd recommend it for a different way of thinking and for its potentials rather than for pragmatic purposes. A good read especially if you're on long distance travel. And an especially good one while on the plane. As with the plane, it will still have to land on ground and not simply traveling in the air ;-)
