Don't Bother To Get The Door

Pros: Lots of stores; convenient delivery.

Cons: The pizza by-and-large is sub-par.

The Bottom Line: Like Pizza Hut, Dominos Pizza has become little more than a prepared freezer box pizza.

I love pizza, almost any type of pizza. But I have to admit that I prefer pizza with a lot of meat (pepperoni, sausage, bacon, beef, and Canadian bacon) piled high mixed with a prodigious amount of mozzarella cheese and big thickly cut onions. I do not like store bought frozen pizza, to me that is not a pizza; I like my pizza piping hot from a real brick oven on a thick pan crust.

The above description applies mostly to local Chicago restaurant pizzas like Rosati’s Pizza, and not chain take out joints like Dominos Pizza. But then there are the commercials, you have love Dominos Pizza commercials. You know the ones, the ingredients are so high and the cheese is oozing down the sides and the pizza looks so good you can almost taste it through the screen! It makes you want to order right then and there, which is what the commercial is supposed to do. There was a day when the commercial would mirror reality; not any more, not at today’s Dominos Pizza.

Good tasting pizza has never been the hallmark of Dominos Pizza. Truth be told, I have never liked pizzas from Dominos even when I delivered for the company when I lived in Hawaii and I could take home a free one, I usually passed. There was something about the smell and hence the taste of a Dominos pizza that did not sit well with my palate. That and I never felt as if there were enough toppings or sauce on the pizza pie to make the pie worth the price. It tasted like a frozen pizza, and like I have already stated I detest those.

The situation improved somewhat with the introduction of the deep dish pizza, but not by much. Until recently I haven’t touched a Dominos pizza; my min always harkened back to those memories of bad tasting frozen pizza, and that was enough to stop me from ordering. But recently—about three weeks ago—I decided to give Dominos Pizza another chance to win my business, and so from my car I ordered a couple of pizza’s; one with pepperoni, and the other a meat-feast; both were ordered with pan crust.

I got the pizza home, sat down to eat, and was again disappoint in short order. The pizza had not changed in the last five years I last ordered and eaten one. The crust had gotten worse, and the pizza still smelled and tasted the same. And where were the sauce, and the toppings? Both were in short supply. Both my wife and I remarked on the scarcity of the sauce and toppings, and once again the pizza tasted eerily like the worst frozen pizza. Never again…

The Menu

Dominos Pizza, the world’s second largest pizza restaurant chain, behind Pizza Hut. The company offers several different kinds of so-called Signature Crusts from which one can choose to pile the ingredients on, in 12 inch (medium) and 14 inch (large). They include:

o Ultimate Deep Dish
o Classic Hand-Tossed Pizza
o Crunchy Thin Crust

And of course there is the Dominos Feast pizza’s that includes:

o Deluxe Feast
o ExtravaganZZa Feast
o Pepperoni Feast
o MeatZZa Feast
o Veggie Feast
o Hawaiian Feast
o America’s Favorite Feast
o Bacon Cheeseburger Feast

Topping include meat (beef, ham, Italian sausage, pepperoni, and pork) as well as vegetable and fruit (black olives, pineapple, green peppers, mushrooms) toppings.

But of course Dominos Pizza doesn’t just offer pizza; there are several different side items (appetizers) to be had, including salad, breadsticks, cheese breadsticks, and Buffalo wings, as well as soda. Dessert in the form of Baked Cinnamon Sticks can also be ordered.

As I alluded to above, Dominos pizza has never been a very good tasting pizza. The restaurant chain has always skimped on sauce and toppings. The result is a frozen pizza quality that is hard to stomach. And while the sides taste pretty good, the cost of them is not worth the effort.

Needless to say I think we have made our last trip to Dominos Pizza for a good long while, which is not big lose. Like Pizza Hut, Dominos Pizza has become little more than a prepared freezer box pizza. I think I’ll stick with Rosati’s Pizza, a local Chicago-style pizza chain that makes stupendous pie; expensive, but yummy.

A new kind of mediocre
Dominos for a long time had been a long time runner with Pizza Hut for nationwide pizza delivery restaurant francise.  Pizza Hut was gourmet and pricy and Dominos was cheap and, cheap.  With more chains showing up, Dominoes kept up by offering new menu items like chicken wings and breadsticks but it's pizza suffered.      Dominos listened and ran a major ad campaign for a NEW pizza that has more tomatoes in it's sauce and more herbs and seasonings in the crust.  …

Pros: Excellent and timely service, always fresh and hot.     Cons: Delivery costs keep going up because of the gas.     The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this pizza to anybody that would like to try something different.     My wife and I have been ordering pizza from Domino's for over 20 years. We have lived in Tennessee, Virginia, downstate Indiana and have had Domino's pizza delivered in all of those locations. Their motto was always …

Pros: fast delivery service      Cons: saucy     The Bottom Line: Within thirty minutes of ordering you will receive your order      While there may seem to be many choices in the pizza delivery services, I have always chosen Domino¬ís Pizza as my preference. There is no shortage of flyers being dropped off in mailboxes or hanging on gates advertising some fly by night pizza operation with cheap prices.   …
