I have a red 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 and have had it for a little over 3 years.
Favorite things about it:
Great gas mileage. City mileage is better than average, anywhere from 24-28 and highway mileage is awesome, 30 miles to the gallon (awesome with low gas prices). I've made it from LA to Vegas on 1 tank of gas. While the mileage is a great, sometimes it's a curse - my car is always chosen from the road trips :/.
Roomy for what it is. It's a 2 door hatchback, there's not a whole lot you can do to make it roomy, but somehow Ford did so with my car. Just the other day I fit three guys, all over 6 feet, in the car comfortably. One even remarked who surprisingly comfy it was.
Compact. Yes, there are concerns over how small cars do in accidents but since I don't get in accidents (knock on wood) so I can appreciate all the other aspects of a compact car - fitting in spaces most cars can't (super helpful in LA), turning radius is pretty cool, and general maneuvering through traffic.
The seats are slightly higher than normal compact cars - not really all that much, but enough so you notice. It's nice to feel slightly elevated and see a little more in traffic than normal.
Not so favorite things:
Some of the things that tend to break seem like they shouldn't and may be because my car is American-made (as the man friend says). I'm still not entirely sure if this is just common car problems, or if it is indeed because it's a Ford.

I enjoy a lot of things - the environment, music, my dog Chewy, the man friend, sarcasm and wit (even better when coupled together) - to be generic. Particular favorites include No Doubt, … more
