This is exactly the kind of religious extremism that caused the September 11th attacks to begin with. Such egocentric and fanatical blind faith can only lead to destruction and violence. Furthermore, this so-called protest wouldn't have achieved a thing except to exacerbate anti-American sentiments and deepen the division between Christians and Muslims. We need unity and empathy, not hostility and ignorance, if we're going to resolve our differences.

About this topic

The 2010 Quran-burning controversy arose when pastor Terry Jones of the non-denominational Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, United States, planned burning copies of the Qur'an on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, which he called "International Burn a Koran Day". The planned event was widely condemned by politicians and religious groups. Jones eventually declared the book-burning canceled and announced his intention to fly to New York to meet with the imam of Park51, Feisal Abdul Rauf. He later stated that it was suspended, not canceled.
