Wow, my first census, and I actually get to fill it out all by myself.

After seeing the Dora video I was convinced that I needed to do the census to help better my community, Even it's only going to be my community for 1 more month.

Little kids count, and so do college kids.

So as soon as I got my census in the mail I filled out and sent it back, so proud that I had helped the government realize it needed more than 2 ABC stores in my college town.

A few weeks passed and I got another census form.

What? But I had already filled mine in. Did I mess up?

So I called the census people who were not helpful at all.
I even tweeted at them asking what I should do, (after all I don't want a phone call from the government yelling at me for not filling out my form when I did)

I still don't know what I am supposed to do with my census form because I can't get answer from them and their contact information is confusing and the FAQs don't mention anything about receiving the form twice.

I am considering completing the second form just to be like "Hah U.S. Census Bureau, you wouldn't answer my question so know your data is messed up! Have fun coming in July because NO ONE WILL LIVE HERE THEN!"

EDIT: I found these two articles that explain why some received two census forms. Apparently the Census Bureau thinks that sending 2 census forms is better than one.

What did you think of this review?

I had the same problem with the Census. Thanks for the update, though! Now I understand why I received two forms!

Glad I could help. It was incredibly confusing for me, so I'm glad I could help you out!

Hmmm, I wonder if you receiving two has anything to do with you being a college student.  Was one of them for your family?  I helped my parents fill theirs out the other week and they weren't sure whether to include my brother who's away at college or not.  The form said not to, though, so I didn't put him in, and assumed that he either received his own or the school was doing it for him.

By the way, have you seen @jbeswick's review of this in the Big Gov community?  Apparently, this is costing tax payers $14.5 billion.  The results better be good! :P

When I called the Census Bureau they told me that they had sent out second forms to areas where they thought people might not fill out the forms. Since I live in off-campus apartments this makes sense, but I had already filled out a form for my apartment so you'd think I'd be taken off the list for the second batch. On campus college kids filled out the census with their RA's, at least thats how we did it at JMU.

Interesting. I'll let my brother know because he was confused by this. Thanks for the heads up!

The Census collects apparently important information that helps the Federal government decide how to waste money in the future. The population, age and racial demographics help Washington make a choice about whether billions should be poured into cities in Ohio or California, and presumably they have algorithms to ensure it's done in the most cost-ineffective way possible.      The Census is also timely in its arrival since politicians had practically exhausted all other ways …

The 2010 US Census is a joke. There is so much waste and corruption. I personally know a Census worker. She is unemployed at the moment and needing some extra money to get by. The cenus job seemed like a great fit. She is finding the whole process is worse than the poorly managed marketing jobs serving samples at WalMart.   They attend trainings, then they are told how many hours they can work. Then they are told the work is not available. Then they are told just be ready to work …

Time has rolled around again for our country's census.  This includes having one mailed to your home for you to fill out and mail back as well as census-takers coming to your door.  Which one would you prefer?  I would much more prefer filling it out and mailing it back.  One good thing about the 2010 Census it's offering jobs for the dismal economy.  The census is taken to find out the country's population which will allow for proper funding to go to these areas for …

The local census office invited us to a census party. Why is there a census party? Huge waste of tax payers money!

Wiki

The Twenty-third United States Census, known as Census 2010, will be the next national census in the United States. The census has been conducted every 10 years since 1790, as required by the United States Constitution, with the previous one completed in 2000. On January 25, 2010, Census Bureau Director Robert Groves personally kicked off the 2010 Census enumeration by counting World War II veteran Clifton Jackson, a resident of Noorvik, Alaska.
